Purpose and Function
Dextrin is a carbohydrate derived from the hydrolysis of starch. It is used as a thickening agent and stabilizer in food production. It is commonly found in baked goods, sauces, and processed foods to improve texture, consistency, and shelf life. It is also used as a coating for fried foods to enhance crispiness.
Outside of food, dextrin is used in adhesives, textiles, and paper production.
